Colin holds his level 2 Medical Professional Certification with the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) the world’s leading educational organisation and research facility dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing.
TPI seeks to educate golf industry professionals and the playing public on the importance of the body and how it relates to the golf swing. In addition, TPI does not believe in one way to swing a club, rather in an infinite number of swing styles. However, they do believe there is one efficient way for every player to swing and it is based on what the player can physically do.
What happens when I come to the Borders Golf Clinic?
Firstly, it is important to establish what you would like to achieve. This will determine the approach we take, whether the focus is on injury management, rehabilitation, or moving better for your golf swing. For example, you may look to receive a physical screen of your current movement systems with the information used to devise an exercise programme to support your golf fitness. We will have an initial discussion to establish your current level of activity (not just golf), what you would like to achieve and any relevant medical history that may influence how we move forward.
At Future Physio we follow Titleist Performance Institute methodology utilising golf specific screening and intervention for injury or performance management.
Dependent on your presentation we will typically perform one of two types of physical screen:
- The Level 1 screen is primarily based on evaluating movement patterns related to your golf swing and performance.
- The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) is incorporated when the Level 1 movement patterns are interrupted due to pain. This indicates that a more thorough assessment is required. The SFMA can help identify the source of the pain and direct the most appropriate treatment for the findings.
Future Physio can liaise closely with your current golf professional/instructor or can recommend input from an established golf instructor network to help with coaching of your most efficient swing style.
Improve my game
The Borders Golf Clinic at Future Physio addresses the health professional and fitness side of your presentation to help manage any injury issues and work towards achieving the most optimal swing for you as an individual. As mentioned, we recommend that we work closely with your golf instructor (if you attend an instructor) to pass on relevant information that helps address any swing issues. It is best to have a team approach for optimal gains. If appropriate, we can arrange a joint session with your golf professional/instructor.
The initial appointment includes a screen as detailed above with either a focus on improving your movement systems for performance enhancement or injury management.
- We will discuss the assessment findings with you from an educational perspective and to agree a way forward to best suit your needs.
- Dependent on your requirements further interventions can be planned accordingly. All individuals are unique both in terms of requirements, ability and rate of development.
- Please see our pricing information for any promotional offers.
What should I wear?
Clothing for the basic screen can be normal clothing, but not baggy to enable observation of gross movement. However, for a more detailed evaluation for pain or dysfunction we recommend that you follow similar advice for our physiotherapy sessions to include shorts, plus vest-type top for females. This allows us to perform a more detailed examination whilst maintaining your comfort. Don’t worry if you prefer to remain in trousers/T-shirt as we will work round this.
